Arthur, volunteer in Ejeda

I decided to take a year off and so, thanks to the DCC and the Augustin de l’Assomption brothers, I went to work in Madagascar. Specifically, I teach maths and physics at the Collège Lycée Michel Canonne in the small village of Ejeda, which has a population of 3,000.

“After 2 years of discernment and formation at the Saint Sulpice seminary in Issy-les-Moulineaux, I decided with my companion to take a year’s retreat. So, thanks to the DCC and the Augustin de l’Assomption brothers, I went on a cooperative project in Madagascar. Concretely, I teach at the Collège Lycée Michel Canonne in the small village of Ejeda, in south-west Madagascar, with its 3000 inhabitants (mainly Zebu breeders or farmers).

I am currently living in the Assumptionist community of Ejeda, in their beautiful and welcoming house, fully equipped (solar panels, battery and water pump) built by Father Daniel, head of the community and tireless missionary for 50 years in Madagascar. Running the school library, I also teach all levels of computer science at secondary school level, as well as maths, physics and even English from time to time.
I don’t think I’m good enough in Malagasy to be a French teacher, but my friends and I are making progress in French and Malagasy, respectively, through mutual practice in our exchanges… “
